Elsie is a community volunteer. In 2003 Elsie began working with North Shore Emergency Management. Currently she holds the position of Level 1 Responder, on call 24/7 for emergency situations such as fires or earthquakes.

Elsie has volunteered at Canuck Place Children's Hospice since October 2008, which provides specialized pediatric palliative care for children living with a life-threatening illness and support for their families.

Elsie is also a great supporter of the Canadian Cancer Society, volunteering in Daffodil Days and the Daffodil Ball every year since 2006. She works closely with Lawrence Sheppard (www.lawrencesheppard.ca) presenting parent and staff workshops.

Elsie has been with us since 2001 and our director since 2002 — a lifelong advocate for families and children.

Blair brings a nurturing approach, strong communication skills, and expertise in fostering social, emotional and cognitive development in children of all ages.

Blair is our resident artist and runs a program with our 4 year olds, preparing them for kindergarten.

Lawrence joined Highlands Out of School Care Society in September 2005.

Lawrence is our Science & Math guru — making regular appearances as Dr. Lawrence-a-pedia, he introduces our children to a wide variety of topics! He's also our designated driver and maintenance man.

He has two children, Hana and Chihiro. His wife Michiko is our Early Childhood Educator. In 2016 they were married by a Jedi on the grounds of Highlands Elementary in the nature garden.

Michiko is our Early Childhood Educator supervisor for group childcare. She started in 2014.

Passionate about creating a nurturing environment that encourages curiosity, independence and social development.

A caring and organized childcare professional, Michiko is committed to supporting children's emotional well-being while promoting healthy habits and positive behaviour. Warm and attentive, she builds strong bonds with children and parents alike.

Mitsuyo is an Early Childhood Educator for group childcare. She started in 2023.

A caring and organized childcare professional, Mitsuyo is a creative and dependable caregiver who blends fun, learning and safety in every interaction, with experience managing and coordinating activities.

She is skilled in adapting care to meet individual needs and developmental stages.

Rose joined Highlands Kids Club in June 2024 and holds her ECE Assistant certificate, with her full ECE currently in progress.

Rose is Penelakut First Nations, from Penelakut Island off Vancouver Island.

A caring and nurturing caregiver, Rose supervises children of all ages on a daily basis and creates a safe and healthy environment for them. She has a passion for helping children learn and develop, and enjoys the satisfaction of seeing them thrive.

Taryn joined Highlands Kids Club in September 2024. She is currently working towards her full ECE certificate.

Taryn is a positive, caring caregiver who promotes positive behaviour and values, and encourages children to follow rules, respect others and think independently. She loves to play board games with the children.
